I mean, I am typically 100% a protective mother lion over Dean, Cas, Sam, and the works— because regardless of their narrative privilege etc they are precious (but not perfect!!) to me— but it’s pretty much guaranteed that until the end of the series, the Winchesters will, at the very least, have the chance at the story doing right by them, and if it doesn’t, even if their season arc is awful, they’ll develop past it at one point or another. At this point, too, I’m feeling a lot more confident in Cas’s fate (though admittedly not in the fight for his agency), considering that they’re investing in his fate enough to make him a S9 regular.
I worry about them so much on a developmental, interpersonal level, as well as what the show is going to do to them— and let’s be honest, I’m looking forward to the pain next episode and beyong— but for now, their existence on the show is secure.
Meanwhile, we have to hold a prayer circle for every other goddamn character who has a chance involvement in a climactic episode, because apparently SPN thinks that the best drama is the sudden and reckless finality of death.
